Metronidazole

  • Form: Microcrystalline powder of white or light yellow color with a metronidazole concentration of 25%, tablets with a metronidazole concentration of 25% or 50%.
  • Pharmacological properties: Metronidazole has a wide spectrum of harmful effects on many protozoa, has high activity against Trichomonas, Giardia, Balantidia, Amoeba, Histomonads, Gram-negative and Gram-positive anaerobes (Clostridium spp., Bacteroides spp., Peptococcus spp., Campylobacter spp.). After oral administration, metronidazole is well absorbed from the digestive tract, penetrates into organs and tissues, passes through the placenta and blood-brain barrier, accumulates in the liver. 1-2 days after administration, it is excreted from the body with milk, urine and is partially excreted with feces.
  • Storage conditions: Dry, dark and cool room with a temperature regime from 5°C to 25°C.
  • Packaging and storage: Polyethylene bags of 500-1000 g, blisters. Shelf life is 2-5 years from the date of manufacture.

Effectiveness of application: Cattle and sheep: trichomoniasis, anaerobic infections occurring after childbirth and obstetric intervention, gas gangrene, malignant edema, necrobacteriosis, necrotic mastitis. Calves, lambs, sheep, goats: enterotoxemia caused by clostridia. Pigs: balantidiosis, dysentery. Fur animals (mink, fox): anaerobic infections caused by clostridia. Dogs, cats: diarrhea caused by Campylobacter spp., ulcerative gingivitis, giardiasis. Geese, ducks, turkeys: histomonosis.

Application standards: For the treatment of balantidiasis in pigs, metronidazole is administered to animals twice a day (morning and evening) orally for 3 days at a dose of 10-20 mg of metronidazole per 1 kg of body weight or 0.4-0.8 g of metronidazole per 10 kg of body weight.

For the treatment of swine dysentery, the drug is used mixed with feed once a day for 4 consecutive days at a dose of 25 mg of metronidazole per 1 kg of body weight or 1.0 g of metronidazole per 10 kg of body weight.

For the treatment of histomonosis in turkeys, the drug is administered orally three times a day for 10 days at a dose of 10-20 mg of metronidazole per 1 kg of body weight or once a day at a dose of 1.5-3 g of the drug per 1 kg of feed for 10 days.

For the treatment of trichomoniasis in cows and breeding bulls, the drug is administered orally for 3-4 days, twice a day at a dose of 10-20 mg of metronidazole per kg of body weight.

Overdose: It is important to follow the instructions for use.

Special precautions: Slaughtering of animals and poultry for meat is allowed no earlier than 5 days after discontinuation of the drug.

Special precautions for personnel: Wear protective clothing when administering the drug. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after the procedure. It is important to follow safety precautions when administering the drug to animals under the skin.
