Colistin sulfate
- Form: Brown powder with a concentration of colistin sulfate 10%.
- Pharmacological properties: Colistin is an antibiotic of the polymyxin group, which is synthesized by the aerobic spore-forming bacillus Bacillus polymyxа. It has a bactericidal effect on gram-negative bacteria (E. coli, Haemophilus spp., Salmonella spp.). Colistin binds to the phospholipids of the cytoplasmic membrane, increases its permeability to intracellular and extracellular components, which leads to the destruction of bacterial cells. The drug is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract in small doses. It is excreted from the body mainly with feces. The effect of colistin against Pseudomonas bacteria is enhanced in the presence of sulfonamides.
- Storage conditions: Dry, dark and cool room with a temperature regime from 0°C to 25°C.
- Packaging and storage: Produced in kraft bags of 1 kg, 20 kg. Shelf life is 3 years from the date of manufacture.
Effectiveness of application: Colibacillosis, salmonellosis and bacterial diarrhea caused by gram-negative microorganisms in calves, pigs, rabbits and poultry.
Application standards: Colistin is administered orally for 5-7 days. The drug is administered in feed in the following doses:
- Birds – 200-400 g/t of feed;
- Pigs – 600-1000 g/t of feed;
- Calves – 1000-2000 g/t of feed;
- Rabbits – 400 -800 g / t of feed.
The course of treatment is 3 days.
Overdose: It is important to follow the instructions for use.
Special precautions: After the use of colistin, slaughter of animals and birds for meat is allowed no earlier than 2 days after the last use of the drug. Eggs obtained during the period of colistin use and after cessation of treatment are allowed to be used 2 days after the last use of the drug.
Special precautions for personnel: Wear protective clothing when administering the drug. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after the procedure. It is important to follow safety precautions when administering the drug to animals and poultry.
