Levamisole
- Form: Liquid for injection and oral administration.
- Pharmacological properties: The active substance of the drug is levamisole hydrochloride - a substance of the imidazothiazole group, which is a biologically active derivative of tetramizole. Levamisole blocks fumarate reductase, inhibits the formation of ATP and acts on the neuromuscular system of the parasite, inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, thereby stimulating continuous muscle contraction, subsequent relaxation and permanent paralysis of the parasite. The drug is administered to animals without a fasting diet and the use of laxatives. After administration, levamisole is rapidly absorbed and reaches maximum concentration in the tissues after 30-50 minutes. The therapeutic level of levamisole is maintained in the body for 6-9 hours.
- Storage conditions: Dry, dark and cool room with a temperature regime from 5°C to 25°C.
- Packaging and storage: Glass ampoules of 1 ml, bottles of 10, 50, 100 ml. Shelf life is 2-3 years from the date of manufacture.
Effectiveness of application: Prevention and treatment of animals with gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodoses caused by:
- Cattle, sheep, goats: Haemonchus spp., Ostertagia spp., Trichostrongylus spp., Cooperia spp., Oesophagostomum spp., Nematodirus spp., Bunostomum spp., Dictyocaulus spp.;
- Pigs: Ascaris suum, Strongyloides ransomi, Metastrongylus spp., Oesophagostomum spp.;
- Poultry: Ascaridia galli, Heterakis gallinarium, Capillaria spp., Singamus trachea.
Application standards: The drug is used in doses:
- Cattle – 0.75 ml per 10 kg of body weight once, intramuscularly in the shoulder blade area (maximum permissible dose – 22.5 ml per animal weighing 300 kg);
- Sheep, goats – 0.75 ml per 10 kg of body weight once subcutaneously in the shoulder blade area;
- Pigs – 0.75 ml per 10 kg of body weight once (for animals weighing 150 kg, the dose is 3.5 ml for every 50 kg of body weight);
- Dogs – 0.75 ml of the drug per 10 kg of body weight once orally;
- Birds – 1 ml per 250 ml of drinking water for three consecutive days orally.
Overdose: It is important to follow the instructions for use.
Special precautions: Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed after 8 days, consumption of milk for human consumption - after 3 days after the last administration of the drug.
Special precautions for personnel: When working with levamisole, the general rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions that apply when working with medicinal products should be observed. It is forbidden to drink, smoke and eat during work.
Forms of incompatibility: Levamisole should not be used simultaneously with, or within 10 days before and after, the use of organophosphates, pyrantel, morantel, and chloramphenicol.
