Enrofloxacin

  • Form: Clear light yellow liquid, concentration 10% enrofloxacin, powder for oral use, concentration 2% enrofloxacin.
  • Pharmacological properties: Enrofloxacin is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including E. coli, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Pasteurella, Pseudomonas, Bordetella, Campylobacter, Erysipelothris, Corinebacterium, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Actinobacillus, Bacteroides Clostridium, as well as mycoplasmas. The mechanism of action on the above bacteria is to suspend the activity of the gyrase enzyme, which is responsible for the replication of the DNA helix in the nucleus of the pathogen cell. Enrofloxacin is excreted from the body mainly with urine and bile. The therapeutic concentration after injection is maintained in the body tissues for 24 hours.
  • Storage conditions: Dry, dark and cool room with a temperature regime from 5°C to 25°C.
  • Packaging and storage: Glass bottle with a stopper. An aluminum cap is used for tightness. The drug is sold in individual cardboard packaging. The drug in powder form is packed in bags weighing 1000 g. The shelf life is 3 years from the date of manufacture.
 

Effectiveness of application: The drug is prescribed to animals suffering from bacterial diseases, the causative agent of which is intolerant to the key substance. Calves, piglets, lambs, chickens and turkeys can be effectively cured of colibacillosis, salmonellosis, streptococcus, necrotic enteritis, hemophilia, campylobacterial hepatitis, mycoplasmosis, combined infections and the effects of secondary symptoms in viral diseases.

Application standards: Enrofloxacin in the form of injections is administered subcutaneously once a day for the treatment of calves, lambs, rabbits, and intramuscularly for pigs. Dosage - 1 ml per 20 kg of body weight for 3-5 days (for calves, lambs, and pigs). The treatment period for mastitis and dermatitis in sows is 1-2 days.

The solution for oral administration is added to the drink once a day for 3-5 days in the following dosage:

  • 0.5 ml/10 kg of weight for calves, piglets, lambs;
  • 5 ml/10 l of water for broiler poultry, meat breeds of turkeys, representatives of the parent broiler herd.

In case of salmonellosis, the concentration of the drug in the water is increased by 2 times. The drug in powder form is used in animals mixed with feed in the following daily doses:

  • pigs – 5 mg of enrofloxacin per 1 kg of animal weight, at the rate of 1.5 kg of the drug per 1 ton of feed;
  • broilers, turkeys, parent broiler herds – 10 mg of enrofloxacin per 1 kg of poultry weight, based on 1 kg of the drug per 1 ton of feed.

The duration of the treatment course is 3-5 days.

Overdose: It is important to follow the instructions for use.

Special precautions: It is advisable for birds to drink only water with an antibiotic.
Avoid gaps in medication for better therapeutic effect. Slaughter of sick animals for meat is allowed only after a two-week period from the last date of antibiotic administration.

Special precautions for personnel: Wear protective clothing when administering the drug. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after the procedure. It is important to follow safety precautions when administering the drug to animals under the skin.

Forms of incompatibility: The drug should not be administered with antiseptic medicinal solutions such as chloramphenicol, macrolides, tetracycline, theophylline, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory veterinary medications.
