Albendazole
- Form: White powder for adding to feed, suspension for oral administration.
- Pharmacological properties: Albendazole is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug, effective against nematodes, cestodes and trematodes, has an ovicidal effect, reduces the contamination of pastures with helminth eggs. The mechanism of action of the drug is to disrupt metabolism, inhibit the activity of fumarate reductase and ATP synthesis of the parasite, which leads to the death of helminths. The drug is low-toxic for warm-blooded animals.
- Storage conditions: Dry, dark and cool room with a temperature regime from 5°C to 25°C.
- Packaging and storage: The suspension is packaged in bottles of 100, 200, 500, 1000 ml, the powder is packaged in polyethylene bags weighing 100, 250, 500, and 1000 g. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture.
Effectiveness of application: Indicated for deworming farm animals and birds, including dictyocaulosis, nematodirosis, fasciolosis, and others.
Application standards: Albendazole is added to the feed. Therapy is carried out both individually and in a group way. The dosage is calculated based on the weight of the animal:
- Sheep, the dose is administered once:
- Pulmonary nematode infections and moniesiosis – 50 mg/kg;
- Chronic fascioliasis – 75 mg/kg;
- Chronic dicrocelosis – 150 mg/kg.
- Cattle, the dose is administered once:
- Pulmonary and gastrointestinal nematode doses – 75 mg/kg;
- Chronic fasciolosis – 100 mg/kg;
- Ascariasis and esophagostomiasis – 100 mg/kg.
- Horses, the dose is administered once:
- Strongyloidiasis, parascaridosis and mixed helminthiasis – 70 mg/kg.
- Birds, the dose is administered twice:
- Ascariasis, mixed invasion and heteroacidosis – 100 mg/kg.
Overdose: It is important to follow the instructions for use.
Special precautions: It is forbidden to add medicine to hot feed. It is impossible to carry out treatment during mating period, to give drug to pregnant females. Contraindications also concern lactation period. Cattle and cattle are allowed to be slaughtered 10 days after treatment. For cattle this period is 2 weeks. Poultry can be used for food 5 days after treatment. Milk and eggs are allowed to be consumed after 4 days.
Special precautions for personnel: When working with albendazole, the general rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions that apply when working with medicinal products should be observed. It is forbidden to drink, smoke and eat during work.
Forms of incompatibility: Albendazole should not be used concurrently with other antiparasitic drugs, as well as dexamethasone and cimetidine.
